SOLISQUARE (version 2)

Solisquare (SOLIS.EXE) is a very simple game of solitaire adapted from a
similar card game. In Solisquare, you are given a screen covered with squares
of different colors. The object of the game is to remove all the squares by
picking up pairs of the same color that are next to each other, horizontally,
vertically, or diagonally. Use the arrow keys (NumLock must be on) to move to
any square that is next to another square of the same color. Then hit the "5"
key to remove that pair of squares. When you do, all the remaining squares on
the screen will slide left as far as they can, and then up as far as they can.
Then the two spaces at the lower right corner will be filled in with two new
colored squares as long as there are still cards remaining in the deck. If the
square you choose is next to two or more squares of its own color, you will be
asked to pick which one you want to remove. Just hit the number pad arrow key
that points in the right direction. The bottom line of the screen will always
keep you informed of the number of squares you've taken off so far, as well as
the number of matched pairs that are currently available. When no more matched
pairs remain, hit the ESC key to end the game. When hints are allowed, you may
hit the TAB key if you would like the computer to move you to the next pair.
In the standard game, the layout uses 15 colors and the deck holds 8 squares
of each color, for a perfect score of 120 if you are able to clear the deck.
The squares are laid out in 6 columns by 5 rows. If you wish, you can choose
different parameters by hitting the appropriate function key when you see the
options menu. (If you'd like to play the game exactly like the original card
game it was based on, choose 13 colors, 5 columns, 4 rows, and 4 squares of
each color). The number of squares of each color must be an even number, or it
will be impossible to win the game. Note that should you choose 0 Squares
per color, the game will give an unlimited number of squares. The parameters
you choose can be made permanent by putting them in the file, SOLIS.CFG.
If you do well, you just might get your name in the Solis Hall of Fame. Your
rating in this high score list is the number of squares you remove, multiplied
by a difficulty index that takes into consideration the total number of rows,
columns, and colors you used. If you have cleared your full deck of squares,
your score for that game is doubled.
That's all there is to it. If you like this game, please send $5.00 to yours
truly, and you will be notified of any upgrades to this program, or any other
programs I might write someday. If you have any comments or suggestions for me
then I would be very interested in hearing from you (especially if you plan on
complimenting me profusely).
